The exhibition “YOU’VE GOT 1243 UNREAD MESSAGES. Last Generation Before the Internet. Their Lives” looked into the recent past where the search for oneself and others took place in an analogue instead of a digital environment. With this exhibition, we wanted to explore the potentials of a non-linear and interdisciplinary manner of narrating a certain historical era. It was an intuitive attempt to get closer to a natural way of storing and rendering experiences and memories without strict periodization and separating what one has experienced as an artwork, information, gossip, or a political directive. We made an effort to create an exhibition as a poetic essay instead of an encyclopaedic history lesson. Yet the exhibition still mediated a certain era and particular attitudes.
The exhibition was awarded the Latvian Cultural Prize Grand Prix.
